This ancient path of many early Christian is deeply rooted in the history of the Catholic Church. From the beginning, Saints have laid down their lives for their faith. But has ‘Irish Steve’ found another martyr in the 21st century? For this it is the Holy Spirit’s task to decide, but Steve has encountered a story from a man that will make one think twice about what it means to be Catholic in the third millenium.
As human beings, we partake of this world in a lineage of a fallen human race. Tragedy strikes daily around the world for the Catholic faithful, even in Ireland. God willing, these old wounds between Catholics and Protestants will heal completely. And perhaps a story here, and a story there, will silence the killings in Ireland. Let us unite our prayers with our Holy Father, Pope Benedict XVI, who has become a strong voice for Christian unity during his pontificate.
