RECORDING: “Is Contraception Harmful?

Today’s story is not in the traditional format of a sit down OBS interview. In fact, it is not an interview at all, but a debate, the great debate in fact! Every year, the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center, in Colorado, draws inspiration from their patron, by hosting a great debate. Just as St. Thomas Aquinas engaged in many debates at the University of Paris, Catholics in the 21st century can do likewise in charity and the pursuit of truth.

Today’s Story

The Aquinas Institute for Catholic Thought, the intellectual arm of the Catholic Center in , is always providing opportunities for college students to pursue truth, and that was certainly the case because of this debate you are about to watch. Last night, on the University of Colorado campus, Janet Smith and Christine Gudorf, two academic women with their doctorate degrees, debated a very relevant question to our times. “Is Contraception Harmful?” That was the question to guide the night. With recent statements and declarations from the federal administration on the contraception topic, this debate was incredibly timely. We will not assess the outcome of the debate here, you will have to draw your own conclusions after watching.

This recording is the only ‘story’ that will publish today on the website. Why? Contraception, in very direct and indirect ways, has impacted all Catholics in the last 50 years. It is important that we continue to dialogue on this topic, as the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Center has made so readily available for us today. If you have opinions or experience with this topic, share them below in the comment section.
