There are ‘one billion Catholics’ on earth. But what if there were seven billion Catholics on earth! Let us unite our prayers with Pope Francis and the Priests and Religious of the Philippines for the inspiration and fortitude to go forth and proclaim the good news to the world.

What a moment that would be, if you could spend five minutes with the Holy Father! Perhaps we sometimes forget in the 21st century, that the Pope, now Pope Francis, is a successor to Saint Peter. Jesus chose Peter to bear forth in to history the ‘keys of the kingdom.’ Scripture paints a clear picture of God’s plan for His Church on earth. And imagine, if you could ask the successor to God’s divine plan for the Catholic Church, one question. What would you ask? Share your questions below.

Filipino Catholics have always been characterized as “Pueblo Amante de Maria” – a people in love with Mary. In this installment of the global “Devotions” series we take a look at how close the Devotion to Mary is in relation to the history and culture of the Filipino people. The faith that radiates from the 7,107 islands of faith is very inspiring for other cultures around the world. We wonder, ‘where does the faith come from, who invokes the joy in these Filipino people?’ Certainly, their devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary plays a key role in their faith, that sends forth many souls toward her son, Jesus Christ. “Mama Mary”, pray for us!

Every year in October, hundreds of thousands of devotees from all across Lima and Peru participate in a religious procession honoring Jesus Christ through the image known in Spanish as, “El Señor de los Milagros”. Boulevards are decorated in purple for the entire month of October to celebrate the Lord of Miracles. The procession is the highlight of the devotion and outpouring of faith, which you are able to witness in the video above.

The image of “El Señor de los Milagros” shows Jesus Christ enduring the pain of crucifixion. Above the cross is the Holy Spirit and God the Father. Below and to the left of Jesus is his mother, the Virgin Mary, with her heart pierced by a sword of sorrow. Kneeling and weeping at the foot of the cross is Mary Magdalene.

In this video, you hear from Br. James Romero Santos a first hand account of the devastating destruction caused by this storm.
