This is a story we wanted to film for years. We were about to film with the storyteller, Ursula, but then the car accident happened. Considering the difficult circumstances, we had to wait a few more years before we could finally film her story. The suffering that Ursula and her family have experienced over the last few years is more than many families experience in an entire lifetime. What makes Ursula’s story so special though, is how despite her suffering and pain, she remains faithful. And the hardships and suffering have actually deepened her faith. She is an amazing example of trusting in the Lord, even when His plan seems to make no sense.

Men and women are different, very different actually, but equal in dignity. It is this complementarity of men and women that makes God’s plan for marriage so joyful, logical, and the building block of society. Strengthening global cultures through the daily sacrifice of marriages rooted within love is key for the future health of our world. Karim and Neil are living out and bearing witness to the hope of God’s perfect plan for marriage, family, openness to life, and laying down one’s life for another.

How does the complementarity of man and woman strengthen your relationship? Share your experience in the comments below.

Every year in October, hundreds of thousands of devotees from all across Lima and Peru participate in a religious procession honoring Jesus Christ through the image known in Spanish as, “El Señor de los Milagros”. Boulevards are decorated in purple for the entire month of October to celebrate the Lord of Miracles. The procession is the highlight of the devotion and outpouring of faith, which you are able to witness in the video above.

The image of “El Señor de los Milagros” shows Jesus Christ enduring the pain of crucifixion. Above the cross is the Holy Spirit and God the Father. Below and to the left of Jesus is his mother, the Virgin Mary, with her heart pierced by a sword of sorrow. Kneeling and weeping at the foot of the cross is Mary Magdalene.

As a young girl, Maria José discovered she loved to dance. When she was 12 years old, she entered a school of dance and began learning traditional Peruvian dances. She spent countless hours dancing during her adolescence. At the age of 15 she met a a group of consecrated lay women and decided that the Lord was calling her to enter this community.

Eventually she discovered through praying in front of the Blessed Sacrament that her true vocation was to marriage and she left the consecrated life to embrace her vocation. Since then she has rediscovered her passion of dance and is now dancing Marinera and contemporary dance. She is able to give more of herself to others because dance helps her to know herself better.

In a shantytown of Lima, Peru, Kelsey Teran shares why she is now so happy to be Catholic after a profound experience of service. Her brother Alan lives in Lima, as he is in formation to become a Sodalit with the Sodalitium Christiane Vitae (Christian Life Movement). When she was invited to go down on a mission trip with the Christian Life Movement, she could not pass up the opportunity to have a taste of what her brother is experiencing on a regular basis in Peru.

Though Kelsey was raised Catholic, she fell away from the faith during college when she was immersed in a religious studies major at the University of Colorado. But during her last semester of college, she went on a retreat and saw a skit where Jesus consoles a broken and disheartened girl, and then breathes life into her and begins to lead her toward true happiness. Seeing this made so much sense to her that she could no longer deny the truth that Jesus is the one who is leading us, if we would only allow him to lead us to God.

Growing up in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ricardo felt unfulfilled with his life. After completing high school he decided to buy a special plane ticket that allowed him to travel the world traveling in one single direction for a year. He began in India, then went throughout Asia and the South Pacific in search of God or some greater meaning in his life. He studied with gurus, explored Buddhism and Hinduism, and tried to find happiness in surfing in lost islands in the South Pacific. At the end of the trip, he was saddened because he found many good people, but did not find God, the reason for his travels. He went to college for a year in the US (his father is American) and was given the opportunity to go to Peru on a missionary trip to build a park in San Juan de Miraflores, a poor neighborhood of Lima. It was there that he began to explore Catholicism again, the religion he was baptized in but never really looked into with any depth. His experience in Peru was life changing, and he decided to drop out of college and move to Lima to begin his formation to become a Sodalit, a consecrated lay man. Since then he has devoted his life to helping the spiritually poor and the materially poor in the US and in Latin America, including leading missionary groups of college students from the US.
